Winter Make-Up: Top 5 Season Trends

February 2018January 2018

We’ve narrowed down the best key make-up trends for you to try at home this season!

Make-up artists around the globe have taken Spring’s key looks and transformed them for Autumn/ Winter 2013.

We’ve seen the introduction of deep floral and berry hues replacing summery, matte lips and the move away from dewy, fresh skin to a more velvety, flawless finish. We’ve also seen a move to more elegant make-up inline with the premier of The Great Gatsby and resurgance of Hitchcok-style femininity, as well as a more dramatic and exaggerated take on 1960’s beauty.

Our Make-Up Director Jessica ha put together our favourite 5 favourite make-up trends for this season for you to try at home:

1. All About The Eyes: Thin Black Eyeliner

This elegant look has been seen on runway shows by Victoria Beckham and Alexander Wang. Glam it up and add a 60’s element by extending the line out to give a cat-eye effect.

To achieve this look, use a gel based liquid liner and an angled brush at a 90 degree angle. Keep the liner extremely thin and barely there – this will open up your eyes but still keep your make up looking natural. Complete the look with natural glowing skin (you can use a radiance primer under your foundation ) and a nude colour lip gloss.

2. Dark and dramatic: Smudged, Sexy Eyes

The focus on this look is a smudged, sexy, smokey eye.

When creating this look, complete the eye make up first before applying your foundation. Prepare your eye with concealer, apply black eyeshadow all over the lid up to the crease. Blend well. It’s all about metallics and glitter this season, so for a more dramatic look add a pigment or glitter over the black eye shadow for some sparkle. Make sure to wear a nude lip with this look.

3. Velvet Touch: Flawless Skin Finish

To achieve this look prep your skin with a mattefing primer. Apply a layer of foundation all over the skin – a foundation brushg will give you a smooth, flawless finish. Once the foundation is applied, evenly apply concealer under the eyes and in areas that need a little more coverage. This will keep your skin looking flawless, but still natural. Set the foundation with a mineral powder to give that matte effect. Highlight your cheek bones with a ligher coloured powder and a soft creme blush on the apples of your cheeks. Add mascara and a gloss for an effortless, natural make up look.

4. Rock Glam: The 90’s are Back

The 90’s are back with a vengance: we fell in love with the grungy look on the Versace runway this season.

Get this look by using a kohl pencil and smudge it into the lop and bottom lash line. To complete this look, team it up with textured, natural hair to achieve that rock-glam look.

5. Vamp It Up: Dark and Semi Stained lips

This is the most wearable look to come off of the catwalks this season.

You’ll want to keep your eyes and skin as natural as possible with this look so that your make isn’t over-the-top. Choose a berry or wine hue that you are comfortable with and that best suits your skin tone. If you don’t want something too bold wear a lip stain – this will be softer and more natural.
