Meet the lovely Elizabeth Clarke. We chat to the fashion & beauty writer, stylist, presenter and blogger about what makes her shine.
For over 20 years, Elizabeth has worked with world-renowned publications including Grazia, ELLE, Vogue, Studio Bambini and The Courier Mail, as well as high-profile personalities including Miranda Kerr, Megan Gale, Jessica Gomes, Candace Bushnell, Donna Hay and Jemima Khan. She has hosted and styled fashion launches and shows for luxury companies including Tiffany & Co., Burberry and Westfield as well as corporate workshops for companies including Mirvac, Network Ten Qld and Blake Dawson Lawyers.
Now based in Perth, Elizabeth is a freelance editorial and advertising stylist. She is a regular columnist and contributor to Grazia (international) and ELLE Australia and The West Australian newspaper and its magazines. Her blog acts as a research tool for her first book, The Modern Mother’s Holy Grail ‘How to fake a perfect life’.
With all this under her belt and a very busy day-to-day schedule, we wanted to know what makes Elizabeth shine and feel her best. This is what she had to say:
1. Fresh, good-quality produce
There is nothing quite like fresh, beautifully prepared produce. I have started growing my own, with dubious results. I was inspired by a recent visit to the River Café in London, where I sat in the sun by their organic vegetable garden on the River Thames. I wish I could recreate this dish! It is the Christian Louboutin of the food world. Absolutely sublime, it tasted like sunshine.
2. A good hotel stay
I have a chronic case of wanderlust and am always planning the next trip – one that preferably requires a passport. Nothing transports you from the everyday like a beautiful hotel stay. My most memorable hotel experience was my room in the rooftops of L’Hôtel Le Bristol in Paris. It was incredibly romantic with fantastic room service and exquisite views. Leaving it verged on the traumatic!
3. The beach
A walk on the beach is absolutely day-changing. It’s a mood-shifter. I am from Brisbane where there are no city beaches, so living in Perth less than a kilometre from the ocean feels very special.
4. My work
Working with beautiful clothes, great models and a brilliant creative team is intoxicating. After twenty years, it still gives me goosebumps. I am part of the newly-formed Silver Bullet Creative Collective, so there are exciting projects ahead for us in 2014.
5. My family and my dog
There is, quite simply, nothing like family. My kids are now at an age where we can sit down for a chat and really laugh. And of course, without playing favourites, my 11 year old Jack Russell adds 5-star shine to my everyday. She is total unadulterated joy.
