Meet Mercy, the face of the Maurice Meade Spring ’17 Campaign! She’s a talented singer, model and law student with a bright future and passion for music. Read on to get to know her more, and keep your eyes peeled to our Instagram stories as Mercy takes you behind the scenes on behalf of Maurice Meade at Telstra Perth Fashion Festival.
Tell us a bit about your background and your passions?
I’ve grown up in Perth. At a young age, I was bitten by the music bug when I learnt to sing and play guitar. I’m currently part of a music duo with my best friend Mia- we were lucky enough to take part in the 2017 season of The Voice and are currently in the process of recording original music at a studio in Fremantle. I’m passionate about fashion and beauty and believe they go hand in hand with feeling confident and vibrant. Right now I’m attending the University of Western Australia completing a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Law. I’m also currently working as a tutor for primary school students in English and Maths.
How do you like to unwind in your free time?
My favourite way to unwind is taking my two Shetland Sheepdogs to the beach or the park. Otherwise you can catch me in my room playing and listening to music. I love heading out to brunch and coffee with my friends and family. I’m also a compulsive shopper who loves a bit (a lot) of retail therapy!
As someone who has accomplished so much at a young age, how has your style changed?
In the last couple of years I’ve noticed a huge change in my character and in the way I look at life. I am now resilient, confident and committed to what I do. This has inspired my style to mature significantly. I know who I am as a woman now and my style matches this realisation.
How would you define your style?
My style is quite classic. However, I mix this up with a flirty, youthful twist! I like to wear my hair in loose curls and accompany that with minimal makeup for a natural glow. Though I do love to dress up and ‘get my glam on’ when I feel the need to.
What does having great hair mean to you?
Great hair is so important to me. Having my hair cut from my previously long waves to a sleek shoulder length was a catalyst for my improved self-confidence and maturity. I love walking out of a Maurice Meade salon with my freshly cut, coloured and styled hair feeling ready to take on the world!
What are your best tips for practicing self love and building confidence?
- Avoid dwelling on your mistakes and focus on your accomplishments. Be proud of yourself and own it!
- Surround yourself with people who have your best interests at heart. For me this is my Family, my boyfriend Jack and my two closest friends Mia and Evie.
- Spoil yourself! Watch your favourite movie, eat your favourite food or listen to your favourite song. This goes perfectly with a bubble bath and a glass of wine!
- Volunteer and take part in community activities. Inspiring others is a great way to inspire yourself!
