We sat down with blogger, wife and mum of two Amy Zempilas to chat all things style, confidence and achieving your best hair ever.
Describe your personal style – what sets you apart, and how has your style changed over the years?
My style is fun and colourful and comfy. Most days you will find me in my active wear, but I will always be wearing some kind of colour – even if it’s my lips or nails! In my twenties I was always in heels, since becoming a mum I am much more of a Converse kind of girl, but I’ll try to add something fun or glamorous to my outfit everyday.
What are the essentials for you when it comes to beauty and self care?
Great skin, lipstick, mascara and a blow dry – if I feel presentable and pulled together, I’m free to focus on my most important job – being a mum and taking care of my two beautiful girls.
You’re always super busy running after your two little girls – how has motherhood affected your style and beauty routine?
I have mastered the art of getting ready in about ten minutes ! Ha! Even if I do occasionally forget to put deodorant on like I did today ; ) Because I’m always taking care of my family – and my hubby works away a lot which means effectively I’m a solo parent – I really value the experience of coming in to have my hair done. It’s SO much more than just having my colour or a blow dry done – it’s taking time out to sit and relax and recharge and have someone look after me for an hour, being pampered and taken care of.
Your bright blonde locks have become your signature look – what do you love about your hair?
I love that it’s healthy and shiny and a really bright blonde. It makes me feel brighter and more confident. Having healthy, shiny hair is SO important to me – if my hair looks it’s best, I feel my best.
How do your stylist or colourist customise your hair to make it perfect for you?
I see Subiaco Head Colourist Charlotte, who provides a personal colour consultation and puts a lot of thought and consideration into achieving the really bright blonde that I like while maintaining the condition of my hair. She uses Olaplex and L’Oreal INOA Blonde Resist for my colour, so we achieve the really bright blonde I love without compromising the condition of my hair. She also ensures I’m using the best at home hair care, so my hair is always receiving the very best treatment.
What are your biggest challenges with your hair, and how do you deal with them?
My roots tend to get quite warm, and my hair can be a little fragile so Charlotte uses Olaplex and INOA to keep my hair healthy and shiny.
Your top 3 time saving hair tips as a busy Mum?
1. Dry shampoo – make sure you always have some!
2. Master the art of a topknot and pony tail
3. Invest in a good serum – it smooths frizzy, flyaway hair and protects your hair from the elements.
